ENUGU STATE GOVT. RELEASES OVER ₦3BN FOR VARIOUS DEVPT. PROJECTS
Plans are on towards upgrading Polly Clinic Asata and Udi District Hospitals to standard hospitals.
The Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Greg Nnaji made this known while briefing Journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council Meeting held at Government House, Enugu.
According to Mr. Nnaji, it is the Council’s decision to rehabilitate and renovate seven District Hospitals in the State located in Agbani, Udi, Igbo Eze North, Isi-Uzo, Nsukka and Awgu.
Mr. Nnaji further revealed that the present administration had awarded contracts for the construction of six major Federal roads across the State, at the sum of ₦2.4BN, covering the Eha-Amufu-Nkalagu Federal Road in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
Other roads include the extension of the Agbani-Afor Amuri Road, the extension of Ituku Road and the construction of Ogonogoeji NdiAgu Akpugo Road through Atavu Bailey Bridge – Afor Onovo, the construction of 42 meter span Umuogo and UmuagbaAmechi Uno/Obinagu Community, all in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Education, Professor Uche Eze equally announced the release of ₦1,000,000,000 to the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, (ENSUBEB), to enable the Board draw another ₦1,000,000,000 from the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja to enhance continuous promotion of the programme in the State.
For Professor Eze, the approval was to pave way for construction of classroom blocks, renovate dilapidated ones and provide the essential resources that would enhance effective learning system.
Professor Eze also stated that the Council approved the release of ₦50,000.000 as grant to the Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo, Ezeagu to procure workshop and laboratory equipment as well as other instructional materials needed for full accreditation of National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.
Also, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anike said the Council approved over 31,000,000 for Health Personnel who are Corps members posted to Rural Health Centres as an incentives to them.
Mr. Anikwe however pointed out that the Council approved additional ₦27,000,000 for the Enugu State Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal, inaugurated last year to discharge its functions.
