ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT PLACES ₦5 MILLION REWARD FOR INFORMATION ON ARREST OF KILLERS OF HEAD NURSING SERVICES PSYCHIATRICS HOSPITAL ENUGU
The Enugu State Government has set aside ₦5,000,000.00 (five million naira) as cash reward for anybody who genuinely leads to the arrest of the assassins of the Head of Nursing Services of Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Mrs. Maria Amadi.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who made the promise while addressing about five hundred Nurses and Midwives as well as some health workers who were at Government House Enugu to peacefully protest against the gruesome murder of their colleague while in active service, emphasized that the State Government would not rest on its oars until the perpetrators were brought to book.
Correspondent IfeomaAmuta reports that the protesters earlier took to the streets of Enugu chanting mourning songs to seek justice for their colleague who was murdered on March 21, 2019 at the age of 55.
It was indeed a sad moment for the Health Workers in the state, especially members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives Neuro-psychiatric chapter, UNTH Ituku-Ozalla and the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu who visibly expressed their grief over the killing of Dr. Maria Amadi in front of her compound while returning from work on the fateful day.
The placard carrying nurses and midwives with inscription “we demand justice” and “we demand security for nurses and workers in the state,” appealed to the Governor and the Inspector General of Police to fish out those involved in killing their colleague.
The Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, (NANNMS), Neuropsychiatric hospital Enugu, Comrade Eric Ugwu expressed bitterness on Dr. Amadi’s death and called for justice.
The Enugu State Chairman of NANNMS, Comrade Ezikel Omeh called for adequate security and welfare of health workers, especially Nurses in the state.
Other people interviewed included, the State Chairman Joint Health Sector Union JUHESU), Comrade Anthony Ozurumba, the former National President NANNMS, Dr. Pat Emebolu-Eze, the State Secretary of NAMMS, Comrade Phyllis Uzokwe and Comrade Ben Asogwa, the State Secretary of Trade Union Congress, all called for justice on Dr. Amadi’s assassination and adequate security in the state.
Addressing the Nurses, the Chief Security Officer in the State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who was really hurt over the demise of the Head of Nursing Services, explained that Dr. Maria Amadi did not die in vain as she would get desired justice.
The Governor gave assurance that the government would review the security architecture of the state and equally give enough attention to the Neuropsychiatric hospital Enugu.
The State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Virginus Nwobodo had earlier at the hospital told workers to remain calm go about their normal duties as efforts would be made to unveil those behind the dastardly act.
