ENUGU PROTEST MARCH: STOP SENSELESS KILLINGS IN NIGERIA – CATHOLIC FAITHFUL CRY OUT

Thousands of Roman Catholic faithful Wednesday marched round the streets of Enugu praying in honour of those who lost their lives during the insurgencies in the country.

The faithful put on black shirts in conformity to the Catholic Bishops’ conference of Nigeria (CBCN) directive to protest senseless killings and rising wave of insecurity in the country and as a way of mourning those who lost their lives in the hands of insurgents, bandits and kidnappers.

Addressing the faithful, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, the Most Reverend Callistus Onaga said the essence was to seek the face of God in reducing the insecurity situations in the country.

According to Bishop Onaga, the rate at which innocent citizens were killed posed a great concern to the Catholic Bishops in Nigeria.

He advised the faithful to maintain law abiding principles and resort to prayer as the only key to surmount the insecurity in the country.

Bishop Onaga however called on Government at all levels to intensify efforts towards protecting lives of citizens.

The prayer march took the faithful through some major streets of Enugu and back to the Holy Ghost Cathedral where it ended with a benediction.
