EBONYI STATE GOVT MAPS OUT FUNDS FOR EMPOWERMENT, PENSION PAYMENT, OTHERS

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government is to spend over three billion Naira to economically empower youths of the state origin engaging in road side hawking across the country.

This was one of the decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting at Government House Abakaliki.

Briefing journalists, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Jude Okpor, explained that over 1,500 hawkers and others doing menial jobs would be trained and provided with capital to embark on trades of their choice.

Mr. Okpor said the Executive Council also approved over N4,000,000,00.00 (four billion Naira) for the payment of arrears of gratuity to retired civil servants and also directed that all issues delaying the payment of pensions to some retirees be resolved immediately.

The Commissioner added that the state government had received N2,000,000,000 (two billion Naira) and 3,000 bags of rice as palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

He noted that Governor Francis Nwifuru would head the Committee to share the palliatives.
