EBONYI STATE GOVT HANDS OVER ULTRA MODERN ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY COMPLEX TO FG

Ebonyi State Government has handed over a five hundred bed capacity Accident and Emergency Complex it constructed at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki to the Federal Government for operationalization and maintenance.

At the event, Governor David Umahi noted that the state government was moved to construct the edifice by the inadequate spaces at the Old Accident and Emergency Unit.

Governor Umahi explained that during an unscheduled visit to the old Accident and Emergency unit he saw patients and victims of accidents lying down on bare floor and hallways where they were receiving medical treatment.

He noted that regardless of the fact that the Hospital belongs to the Federal Government, the medical services being rendered were for the people of the state hence the donation.

Governor Umahi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for releasing one billion Naira and one hundred million Naira through Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Daniel Umezuruike noted that in addition to the complex, the rehabilitated thirteen General Hospitals in the state would soon be equipped while the completion of the state University Teaching Hospital in Uburu was underway.

The Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Emeka Ogah, emphasised that the intervention of the state government had taken the Hospital further in the realization of its mandate as a teaching hospital.

The ultra modern Accident and Emergency Complex has theatre and ward suites, Anaesthetic units, Pharmacy, aerial recreational space and a quadrangle for sit out.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the new hospital complex would be inaugurated on a later date by the Federal Government.
