The member representing Ikwo and Ezza South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Comrade Chinedu Ogar, has called for the enthronement of true democracy to de-escalate tension and stabilize the security situation in the country.

Interacting with journalists in Abakaliki, Comrade Ogar noted that the problem of Nigeria was neither restructuring nor state police but lack of true democracy where actions and policies of the government reflect the will of the masses.

“Imagine the multitude of security personnel in the hands of one politician, when there is no state police, how much less when states are allowed to control their own police.

“The implication is that members of the National Assembly and powerful politicians will use state police to intimidate and clamp down on those who cannot speak for themselves,” he said.

He noted that Nigerians had what it takes to secure their communities but could only do so when they were deeply involved in choosing their leaders at various levels of governance.

“If you are a leader and there are security breaches in your area and you cannot fish out the masterminds, then you are not a leader elected by the people,” he said.

Comrade Ogar observed that many political leaders were far from the people thereby creating voids being filled by enemies of the state, whose interests were to brainwash innocent citizens to destabilize the country.
