EBONYI GOVT WORRIED AS RENEWED HOSTILITIES CONTINUE IN EFFIUM-EZZA EFFIUM COMMUNITIES

Reporter : AMECHI ODO –

Ebonyi State Government says deployment of military forces is not an option as war torn Ezza Effium and Effium communities in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state record renewed attacks.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Uchenna Orji, stated this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting at Government House Abakaliki.

Mr. Orji noted that the government was worried about the development, especially as it was coming few days after the two communities signed a peace pact.

He explained that the council had resolved to re-invite stakeholders not only from Effium and Ezza Effium Communities but also from other communities where renewed hostility had been reported, including Abomege and Isinkwo in Onicha Local Government Area for a crucial meeting.

Mr. Orji said the State Executive Council had constituted a committee to investigate the collapse of some sections of a perimeter fence constructed at the project site for an International Stadium in Abakaliki.

The Commissioner for Information explained that the state government also resolved to set up a disciplinary committee to try and dismiss four staff of Ministry of Power and their cronies for their alleged involvement in the theft of diesel used to power street light in Abakaliki.

He said that the state government had fined a property owner whose house was used as depot for the stolen product the sum of five million Naira.

Mr. Orji said the council approved about two-point-nine billion Naira for the construction of a Parking Lot at Ebonyi International Airport.
