EBONYI GOV’S WIFE TO ESTABLISH TASKFORCE AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The Wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, says her office is working out modalities to establish a taskforce to stamp out street hawking by under aged persons and other forms of child labour in the state.

She stated this at the empowerment of indigent widows and children organized by the state government at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.

Mrs. Nwifuru expressed worry about high level of child neglect, child labour and molestation in the society.

She called on mothers to stop giving out their children as house helps but to train them as the leaders of tomorrow.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Mrs. Patricia Obila, who represented Governor Francis Nwifuru had while speaking on the theme ‘’Mother, where is Your Child?’’ called on women to monitor the activities of their children as many had derailed due to lack of mentorship.

Some of the beneficiaries, who got sewing machines, grinding machines and bags of rice, promised not to sell the items but to put them into good use.
