EBONYI CONTINUES CAMPAIGN TO CURB HIV & AIDS

People living with HIV and AIDS have been urged to avoid behaviours that could affect their condition negatively.

The AIDS coordinator in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Elizabeth Okouwa, gave the advice during an event to mark the 2022 world AIDS Day in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The event, which commenced with a road walk from Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium through Speira N Deo Junction to the International Market, had in attendance many Partners in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Mrs. Elizabeth Okouwa explained that the world AIDS Day, which is marked on first of December every year is to remember those who died of AIDS and those infected by HIV.

The Technical Leader and State Team Lead for Excellent Community Education Welfare Scheme, Dr. Onyekachukwu Osabiko, noted that Nigeria and Ebonyi State in particular had made significant impact in the fight against HIV and AIDS and implored all stakeholders to join in the fight.

The Acting Programme Manager, Ebonyi State Agency for the Control of AIDS (EBOSACA), Prince Benson Nwali, called on people to know their HIV status to enable them to live positive lifestyle.

Prince Nwali enjoined members of the public to avail themselves of the free testing services provided to commemorate the day to know their status.

This year’s event with the theme, “Equalise to end AIDS,” featured free HIV testing and counseling as well as free distribution of condoms.
