EBONYI AIRPORT TO BE READY 2022 — GOV UMAHI

Reporter:  AMECHI ODO

Construction work has intensified at the project site for Ebonyi International Airport located in Izhialand in Ezza South and North Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State. Governor David Umahi, who visited the site to monitor progress of work, told journalists that the airport project would be completed in 2022.

The airport project, which covers over four-point-four kilometre land mass, was commenced last year as Ebonyi State Government seeks to open up the state to International travellers and investors. It was observed that the construction of the Airport tarmac, which would be one hundred metres wide and four kilometres long at completion, had commenced while sand piling of the terminal building foundation had reached ninety percent.

Governor Umahi explained that the airport would be one of the biggest in the country and would be connected to Abakaliki-Afikpo Federal Highway with a flyover. Chief Umahi pointed out that the state government was also looking towards the completion of other critical projects, including the College of Medicine Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state; dualizing of the Abakaliki- Enugu and Abakaliki-Afikpo Federal Highways; and Olympic size Stadium sited in Abakaliki.

He also visited Inyere Ogwuma Hill in Afikpo Local Government Area where he ordered the State Ministry of Works to embark on the construction of a flyover across its valley given its terrible terrain, accidents and loss of lives recorded at the spot.

Other projects visited included, Vegetable and Food Market Halls at International Market Abakaliki; new Exco Chamber at the new Government House;  Abakaliki-Mile Four Road construction; Ezzamgbo Flyover and Odunukwe-Hatchery Road reconstruction.
