EARLY MORNING FIRE GUTS PART OF AMOBI PLASTIC MARKET, ONITSHA

A fire outbreak has destroyed property and goods worth millions of naira in one of the plazas at Amobi Plastic Market in Onitaha, Anambra State.

The fire, according to sources, started around 12.30am on Friday.

Confirming the incident, the Operational Commander, Federal Fire Service in Anambra State, Mr. Kerran Uzonwanne said the command got a distress call around 12.30am that there was a fire outbreak at Amobi Street and responded immediately.

Mr. Uzonwanne said that the infreno was beyond his team, hence the invitation of Okpoko Fire Station and Delta State Fire Service to help in putting out the inferno.

According to Mr. Uzonwanne, three fire fighting vehicles were stationed at the area to make sure that the fire did not escalate.

The Operational Commander advised traders to be mindful of their electrical appliances after close of business to avoid fire outbreaks.

In an interview, a victim, Mr Osita Okija, said though there was no casualty in the incident, numerous property and goods were razed by the fire.

He commended the fire fighters for their prompt intervention in arresting the situation.
