DRIVERS TOLD TO RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF OTHER ROAD USERS

Motorists are advised to shun recklessness and respect the rights of other road users to avoid crashes during the yuletide.

The Commissioner for Transport in Enugu State, Mr. Vitus Okechi gave the advice at the end of a one week sensitization programme on road safety, organized for stakeholders in the transport sector.

Mr. Okechi explained that the objective of the seminar was to create awareness on road safety and to reflect on the traumatic consequences of reckless driving.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission represented by the sector Head, Motor Vehicle Administrations, Mr. Lucky Ebikefe said most of the road crashes were caused by human error and expressed optimism that regular awareness campaign would help to reduce road accidents.

In a remark, the Chairman, Tricycle Riders Association in Enugu State, Mr Benjamin Ikar described the programme as timely, promising to share the lessons with his members to help save lives and property.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Luxurious Buses Association, Coal City Cab Operators and over twenty different transport companies commended Enugu State Government for its commitment to make the road safe for users.

The one week sensitization programme featured a road show along major streets of Enugu metropolis.
