DMGS COLLAPSED STRUCTURE: JUSTICE OBIORA HEADS INVESTIGATIVE PANEL

REPORTER: CHRIS OBILERI

Justice Pete Obiora of the Court of Appeal is to head a high powered investigative panel constituted to look into the immediate and remote cause of the collapse of a five storey building under construction at the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Onitsha, Anambra State.

The panel has a seasoned Legal practitioner, Mr. Andy Obianwu, as the Secretary.

Addressing journalists at the site of the incident in DMGS Onitsha premises, the Bishop on the Niger Anglican Communion, the Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo, said nobody had come up to say anything pertaining to the cause of the collapse since last week.

Bishop Nwokolo expressed regret that the building was meant to commemorate the 100 years of the prestigious school, which was established in 1925.

Earlier, the Archbishop Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, had observed that it would have been a tragedy because lots of lives would have been lost.

The Most Reverend Ibezim said that students of the institution were on break during the incident and commended the Anambra State Government for assistance rendered in the evacuation of the rubble.

He appealed for involvement of the church in whatever plans the state government would want to do on the incident.

A five storey building under construction at the premises of DMGS Onitsha collapsed last week killing one person and injuring two.
