Suspected hoodlums have allegedly attacked the Divisional Police Station in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, setting ablaze one of its wings.

The incident, which occurred in the wee hours also resulted in one police officer sustaining machete cuts and the burning of four patrol vehicles.

A source familiar with the incident told Radio Nigeria that the incident was in connection with an alleged killing of a young man whose corpse was discovered in a bush.

The Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr. Stanley Okoroemegha, noted that the state government was worried about the development and called on the police to do thorough investigations into the matter.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, explained that the hoodlums had earlier threatened to attack the police for allegedly protecting suspected herdsmen who purportedly killed the young man.

She noted that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Garba, had visited the Station and community stakeholders as investigations into the matter had commenced.

Recall that barely one month ago, a similar attack was carried out on Onueke Divisional Police Station in Ezza South Local Government Area.
