DISMISSAL OF ERRING POLICEMEN, A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION — ABIA RESIDENTS

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Usman Baba, has been urged to sustain the current effort aimed at sanitizing the force.

Some residents of Abia State made the call in a reaction to the recent sacking of some police officers who were recorded on video while engaging in wrong practices.

One of them, Mr. John Mba, said it was a move in the right direction and had sent a strong signal that rules must be followed.

He wondered the business a police man had with searching the phone of members of the public or flogging another person with cutlass, which led to the dismissal of some of them.

Another resident, Mr. Stephen Chima, said it had gotten to the stage where drastic measures needed to be taken to stop erring police officers on their tracks and threw his weight behind the IG.

A tricycle operator, who simply identified himself as Mr. Alexander, said the actions of some police officers had given the force a bad name and were not worthy of remaining in the profession.

He urged those still serving to learn from their former colleagues so as not to end up like them.
