DFID Scores Ugwuanyi High on Quality Education

Governor Idfidfeanyi Ugwuanyi’s works towards the provision of affordable
and qualitative education has been described as a remarkable gesture
worthy of emulation by the United Kingdom’s Department for
International Development (DFID) Enugu State office.

A member of the donor agency, Mr. Kayode Sani, who spoke at the DFID’s
Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) Programme held
at the Nike Lake Resort Hotel, Enugu, over the weekend eulogized the
governor for his remarkable achievements on education and provision of
infrastructural facilities.

Mr. Sani noted that although ESSPIN was launched in Enugu State during
the preceding administration, Governor Ugwuanyi’s contributions since
assuming office in 2015 has been unprecedented and even surpassed the
achievements of other South-East states in the areas of affordable and
quality education.

Earlier in a speech, Governor Ugwuanyi represented by his deputy, Mrs.
Cecilia Ezeilo, appreciated the support of DFID’s Education Sector
Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) which he noted has bolstered his
administration’s goal of providing quality education to the people.

“The importance of empowering our people through quality education
cannot be over-emphasized and this has made the state government to
invest heavily in the sector,” he said.

Speaking on the benefits the collaboration has yielded, he cited the
building of more schools, provision of toilet facilities to schools,
among others, pointing out that though ESSPIN is winding up its
educational support programme in Enugu State his administration
remains committed to collaborating with other donor agencies in all
areas of development.

Also speaking, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche
Eze, described the ESSPIN arm of DFID as a dependable ally.

He stated that the introduction of data collection and training of
teachers by the donor agency has assisted the state greatly towards
the provision of quality and affordable education to the people.
