DESECRATION: CHURCH MEMBERS SHOT, RAPED DURING VIGIL IN ABAKALIKI

Suspected armed robbers have shot and raped church members during a vigil at Assemblies of God Church, Nteje Street Abakaliki.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Loveth Oda, told Radio Nigeria in a telephone interview that the armed robbers numbering two sneaked into the church in the wee hours of the day and carried out the nefarious act.

According to the PPRO, the armed robbers shot one of the girls in the lapse and raped another while three other members, who were young boys, were dispossessed of their  valuables, including phones.

Mrs. Oda said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects, noting that they were likely to be members of a gang of armed robbers recently busted by the police in the state capital. Meanwhile, the victims have been taken to a hospital for medical attention.
