CRISIS RESOLUTION: SEN. NENADI USMAN LEADS LP CARETAKER COMMITTEE

The NEC/Extended Stakeholders Meeting of the Labour Party held in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital has end with the appointment of Senator Nenadi Usman as Chairperson of a 29-member caretaker Committee.

The caretaker Committee is to organize the election of a new leadership of the party within the next 90 days.

The caretaker committee also has Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary and other members representing various interest groups including NLC, TUC, Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly, and Gubernatorial candidates in the last election.

The Terms of Reference of the Committee include, ensuring the conduct of Ward, Local Government, State Congresses and National Convention as soon as possible and in accordance with the Constitution of the Party.

The host, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State explained that the essence of the meeting was to deal with the problems confronting the party and come up with strategies of piloting the affairs of the Party stressing that the tenure of the National working Committee of the Party headed by Mr. Julius Abure had elapsed since 10th of June 2024.

Governor Otti appealed to all stakeholders of the party to unite to resolve every internal difficulties confronting the party.

For his part, the National Leader of the party and Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi said that all they were doing was to follow the guidelines established by law to save the party from total collapse.

Responding on behalf of members of the caretaker Committee, the Chairperson, Senator Nenadi Usman, who is a former Finance Minister, thanked the National Leader of the party, Mr. Peter Obi, and other stakeholders for finding them worthy for the task and gave the assurance of justifying the confidence reposed on them.

In a separate interview some of attendees, the Deputy Speaker Abia House of Assembly Mr Austin Okezie, House Member, representing Awka south one in Anambra House of Assembly, Mr Nigeria Henry Mbachu and Evang. Ude Zion all described the meeting as apt to enable the party to champion its course.

According to them, a house with crisis can never be focused to fight external forces, especially as gubernatorial elections are coming forth in Edo and Ondo States.
