COVID19:ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT ORDERS WEEKLY DECONTAMINATION OF ALL LIVESTOCK MARKETS IN THE STATE

Enugu State Government has directed the State Fire Service to immediately commence decontamination of all livestock markets across the state to contain the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

The directive followed disturbing reports emanating in some states of the country from where most of the livestock come to Enugu.

The Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudili Ohaa, made the government directive known while addressing journalists after decontamination of New Artisan Livestock and the Garriki Cattle Markets.

Mr. Ohaa, noted that government was not leaving anything to chance to ensure that coronavirus did not spread.

The Fire Service boss, maintained that the State Standing Committee on COVID-19 headed by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, took cognisance that transportation of livestock was not affected by the lockdown order, hence the proactive steps by government to ensure that the animals and the environmet where they are kept were sanitized.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman of New Artisan Livestock Market, Alhaji Danlandi Abubakar, and his Garriki Cattle Market counterpart, Alhaji Baba Aliyu Muhammad, said they were taking proactive measures to ensure that Livestock coming into Enugu State were properly treated.

The Chairman, Arewa Youth Association in Enugu State, Alhaji Hamza Buba, commended the State Government for accommodating everybody and stressed that he had sensitized Hause youths in the State to basic preventiventive guidelines to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

Radio Nigeria quotes the Chief Fire Service Officer as saying that the exercise would be done on weekly basis to ensure that the recent confirmed case of coronavirus in the State did not escalate.
