COVID-19: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT STEPS UP BORDER SECURITY

As the Lockdown order is still force in Abia State, residents have been assured of improved security at the borders as part of measure to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

A member of the Abia State Inter-ministerial Committee Taskforce on COVID-19, Mr. Suleiman Ukandu, gave the assurance during a Radio Nigeria Pacesetter Fm programme, COVID-19 Update.

Mr. Ukandu explained that a lot of measures had been put in place to control movement of persons or materials that could constitute danger to the state.

Mr. Ukandu, who also monitored the compliance at the border of Imo and Abia States following a lockdown order in the state, noted that enough security personnel made up of the police, Civil Defence, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Vigilance group were on ground to checkmate unacceptable movements.

The COVID-19 committee member advised the residents never to panic over the borders as the committee had begun ensuring that all unapproved vehicles at the borders were turned back to IMO and others States where they came from.

Mr. Ukandu called on the residents to cooperate with the security agents in the state to achieve the onerous task of safety of lives and property of the citizenry, especially at this period of fighting the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
