A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chike Okafor, wants government at all levels to see the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic as wakeup call to strengthen the health sector.

Speaking with journalists in Owerri, the lawmaker noted that the every Nigerian irrespective of status was being compelled to seek medical attention at home due to global lock down, a situation he said called for urgent intervention in health facilities.

Mr. Okafor, who represents Obowo, Ihitte-Uboma and Ehime Mbano Federal Constituency, called for more budgetary allocation to primary health care centres to serve the health needs of those living in the rural areas.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to pay more attention to agriculture, which he said was the solution to the dwindling crude oil prices in the global market.

The lawmaker commended President Muhammadu Buhari for issuing an executive order on financial autonomy to judiciary and state houses of assembly as the measure would go a long way in strengthening the institutions.
