CORPS MEMBERS IN ENUGU STATE COMMENDED FOR CONTRIBUTION TO DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION AND HEALTH SECTORS

The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has commended corps members serving in the State for their contributions to the development of some sectors of the economy especially in education and health sectors of theState.

Governor Ugwuanyi made this known in a message during the swearing in ceremony of the twenty eighteen batch C, stream two corps members at the NYSC, Orientation camp, Awgu.
The Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mr. Uwake Azikiwe, said that the NYSC scheme since inception had played a pivotal role in national integration and development as exemplified in the contribution of corps members to rural development and implementation of Governments’ programs.
“The regular payment of the allowances of corps members serving in the State establishments and the upgrade of facilities in the camp testify to our commitment to corps members’ welfare,” he said.

Mr. Azikiwe said that the contributions of corps members in the development of education and primary health care in the State were unquantifiable.

“I, therefore, urge you to emulate your predecessors by continuing to sustain the achievements of the scheme,”

The State Coordination, NYSC, Chief Ahmed Wada Ikaka commended the State Governor for the provision of a transformer to boost electricity supply in the camp and reminded him of the over eighty million naira included in the 2018 budget for the upgrade of the Orientation Camp infrastructure.
“We seek your intervention to reconstruct the largest male hostel which has the capacity to accommodate 500 corps members to meet the rising increase in the population of participants in the scheme.

“As mentioned during the Batch ‘A’ Orientation Camp, N49 million has been provided in the State’s 2018 budget as well as N16 million for renovation of Staff Quarters.

“Another N16 million is for the commencement of the construction of perimeter fence which I started last year,” he said.

Mr. Ikaka commended the Governor for his interest in improving the welfare of corps members.

He, however, said that lack of utility vehicle had hindered the operations of the scheme in the State and appealed to the Governor to redeem his pledge of providing two vehicles to the Scheme.

“We are expected to embark on sensitisation of all corps members in the 17 Local Government Areas of the State from this November to prepare them for the 2019 general elections.

“This important national assignment is indeed in jeopardy due to lack of operational vehicles,” he said.

While pledging to an oath of allegiance administered on them by Justice Anthony Onovoh, the corps members swore to uphold the ideals of the scheme and their fatherland.
The Corps Members who took the oath of allegiance were one thousand, seven hundred and six, comprising eight hundred and fifty eight males and eight hundred and forty eight females.
