COMMISSIONER DISMISSES THREE POLICEMEN IN ABIA
REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU
Three personnel of the Abia State Police Command have been dismissed for engaging in conspiracy, abduction and extortion of their unsuspecting victims.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Danladi Isa, dismissed the police officers following administrative disciplinary measures.
Those dismissed are a Sergeant, Jonas Nnamdi, attached to Area Command, Aba; a Corporal, James Daniel attached to the Department of Operations, Umuahia; and another Corporal, Ifeanyi Emeka, attached to Eziama Division.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, indicated that the dismissed personnel had already been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices.
According to the statement, the three dismissed policemen and two civilians were apprehended on the twenty ninth of last month by the Divisional Police Officer for Abayi Division.
They were said to have been found armed with an electric baton, assault rifle and a Beretta pistol, conspired and hired a minibus, abducted some civilians along Port Harcourt Expressway, threatened and extorted them, and thereafter demanded extra money from their families for their release.
The statement said an investigation and orderly room trial confirmed their involvement in the unprofessional conduct and resulting in their subsequent dismissal.
The statement reaffirmed the resolve of the Commissioner of Police towards ensuring that the command maintains its zero-tolerance stance for corruption and other unprofessional conduct, insinsting that discipline remained the bedrock of the force.
