COMMERCIAL TRANSPORT ACTIVITIES YET TO PICK UP IN ENUGU AFTER THE YULETIDE

Commercial activities in the transportation industry are yet to pick up in Enugu metropolis.

A trip around some major roads in the area revealed that most of them were devoid of the traffic congestion which they were known for before now.

For instance, the popular Texaco bus stop Abakpa Nike and Chris Chemist, Holy Ghost round about lacked their usual hustle and bustle.

In an interview, a park supervisor in one of the mass transit companies in Abakpa Nike, Mr. Augustine Ejor and a Manager in a popular transport company at old park, Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwu complained that the passenger traffic was low when compared with that of last week.

At another park located at the Holy Ghost round about, a transport official, Mr. Chukwurah Nnaji observed that they had more passengers going to places like Lagos and Abuja now than those coming into the metropolis.

Two passengers, Mrs. Ijeoma Okain and Mrs. Ndidi Okolie, traveling to Onitsha and Abuja said it was heartwarming that transport fares were more affordable this year when compared with last year.

However, they condemned the increase in transport fares despite the fact that prices of premium motor spirit known as petrol and other fuels remained stable and available.
