BREAKING: COURT NULLIFIES 2013 IMPEACHMENT OF IMO DEPUTY GOV
Reporter : CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
An Imo State high court sitting in Owerri has nullified the 28th March 2013 impeachment of Chief Jude Agbaso as the then Deputy Governor of the state by the State House of Assembly.
This followed a consent judgment entered into between the plaintiff and defendants in the matter.
The trial judge, Justice S. Opara therefore dismissed the allegation of bribery leveled against the then Deputy Governor by the state government and described his removal from office as null and void.
Reacting to the judgment, Chief Agbaso, who has been in court for the past eight years, expressed delight that he had been vindicated by the court pronouncement.
He commended the present leadership in Imo State for their decision to discontinue with the legal tussle which he described as tortuous.
Counsels to the State Government and that of the State House of Assembly could not be reached for their reactions as they left the court immediately after the judgment.
Chief Jude Agbaso was removed from office barely two years after taking oath of office with Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2011.
