BOY RESCUED AS FIRE GUTS STOREY BUILDING IN ABAKALIKI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

An Eleven year old boy has been rescued as fire guts a one storey building with four flats at No 28 Udensi Street in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Friday afternoon.

An Eyewitness explained that the boy was sleeping in one of the flats when the fire started but was rescued by first responders, who had gone to save some of the affected property.

One of the tenants, Mr. Chinedu Nwaogba, said he was alerted on the phone that his flat was on fire, noting that before he could rush home, all his property had been burnt.

The Landlord of the House, Mr. Andy Ugwu, attributed the fire incident to power surge from the public power supply, emphasising that he lost all his belongings.

The State Director Ebonyi State Fire Service, Mr. Raphael Ibiam, who was coordinating efforts to put out the fire as at the time of filing this report, explained that loses would have been more if not for their quick response to the scene.

Radio Nigeria gathered that no life was lost but that the fire became more devastating when a gas cylinder in one of the affected flats exploded.
