BILL FOR LAW TO GRANT THE AUTONOMY OF ANAMBRA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSED

A bill for law to provide for the establishment of the Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission has been passed. The bill was passed by the lawmakers during the plenary in Awka.

The Service Commission among other things is to formulate and implement guidelines for its functions, appoint all officers in the service of the House of Assembly, exercise disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in such offices. The bill, when assented to by the Governor would grant the House autonomy.

Speaking shortly after the passage of the bill, the Member representing Njikoka two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida, congratulated his colleagues for taking the bull by the horn in the passage of the bill, stressing that several attempts were made in the past to pass the bill but all to no avail.

The Speaker of the House, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu noted that there would be no conflict between the State Legislature and the Service Commission and gave the assurance that the bill would be transmitted to the Governor for assent without delay.

The Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Mr. Chugbo Enwezor, said the success story by the members of the sixth Assembly would go down in history, for making a frantic effort in strengthening the legislative institution in the State.
