AUTO CRASH: ELEVEN PASSENGERS BURNT TO DEATH IN EBONYI

Eleven persons have lost their lives in a road accident involving a Mass Transit bus at Ayaragu axis of Afikpo-Okigwe Expressway in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mrs. Loveth Oda, explained that the Mass Transit bus, with reg number MUS 938 XA, was heading for Abakaliki from Umuahia, Abia State when one of its tyre bursted.

According to Mrs. Oda, the driver lost control of the bus as it somersaulted and went into flames.

She noted that eleven of fourteen occupants of the bus were burnt beyond recognition while three were injured.

The PPRO said police were finding it difficult to identify the passengers as a manifest found in the bus did not have current date.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the charred remains of the eleven passengers, including the driver of the bus, were deposited in the morgue of Ivo General Hospital while three survivors were receiving treatment.
