Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has advised Nigerians to imbibe team spirit, brotherliness and love for fellow compatriots.
Governor Obiano stated this during a ceremony to commemorate the 2022 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
Governor Obiano, who acknowledged the efforts made by the country’s security personnel in the battle against insurgents, urged citizens to rally round them and embrace peace for sustainable development of the country.
The Governor commended security agencies in the state for their selfless service, commitment and effort at ensuring that the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.
According to Governor Obiano, the remembrance ceremony for the nation’s fallen heroes and war veterans was an opportunity to reassure the people of government’s unflinching determination to continue to guarantee peace and safety across Nigeria and Anambra State in particular, in spite of the country’s security challenges.
He noted that in order not to allow the supreme sacrifice made by the country’s fallen heroes not be in vain, Nigerians must encourage the use of democratic and appropriate institutions in the processes of seeking redress.
Governor Obiano had on arrival in the company of the Parade Commander inspected a parade mounted by the Army, Navy, Airforce and the Nigerian Legion.
The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Uche Okafor commended Nigerian soldiers for their sacrifice in defence of the country against external and internal aggressions.
The Speaker, while commiserating with the families of men and officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, tasked them to give meaning to the yearly remembrance by playing their part in the process of building the nation.
A Jumat prayer and an Interdenominational Service were held a week ago as part of the celebration.
Apart from the colourful parade, the event featured laying of wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier by Governor Obiano and the release of pigeons, signifying peace for the country.
