ANAMBRA STATE : RESIDENTS WORRIED OVER INFLUX OF STRANGE PERSON FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH

Some stakeholders in Anambra state have expressed worry over the  recent practice by some desperate  citizens who  engage in the act of transporting  strange persons from the Northern part of the country down to some states in Southern zone.

To this end they have called on the federal government and security agencies to urgently look deeper into the  situation with a view to fishing out those  behind the ugly trend.

The people who spoke through the leader of town  Unions ,  Chief Alex Onukwue  and other stakeholders however commended  the efforts made so far by the federal and state governments in containing the Covid -19 pandemic. On Monday this week security agents enforcing boundary lockdown intercepted thirty three persons hidden in between goats in a truck heading to Onitsha Anambra state.

This according to the National President  of  Anambra State Association of Town Unions ,  ASATU, Chief Alex Onukwue has made it imperative for the stakeholders to condemn the inhuman act which has continue to become threat to live of the people . Chief Onukwue who described the new trend as the Anambra state government against Covid 19 warned that the communities will be left with no choice than confront the situation with all the seriousness it deserve.

We wish to warn that should this callous business continue of shipping strange persons, Almajirai or not, from the north or elsewhere to Anambra State in light of covid-19 restrictions, the communities of Anambra State will be left with no choice than to confront the situation with all the seriousness it deserves. We can no longer take it as child’s play.

Accordingly, we call on the federal government and the security agencies to urgently look deeper into this ugly situation with a view to fishing out those who perpetrate this wicked sabotage and to bring them to book and stop this ugly trend. We in Anambra state see the ugly trend as a well articulated mission of some persons to cause fear and panic in the state and, in fact, to weaken the fight against covid-19 in Anambra state and the Southeast. We see it as a deliberate inclination to rubbish the efforts of the governments of Anambra state and, indeed, the efforts of the government in the Southeast to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the region. We reject this sabotage and we hope that our message is clear.”

In a remark the President Ohaneze Ndigbo Anambra state chapter , Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene regretted the trend and called on all the vigilant groups in various communities as well as other organizations to reinforce their security networks to ensure strict compliance to the boundary lock down occasioned by the Covid 19 pandemic.

” How can the federal government ban movement and everyday we see people in their numbers coming down to Anambra,  and when you ask them , they will say they are going to Obulafor in Enugu state while they are in Awka,  the federal government must look into it”.

Contributing a retired colonel and first Vice National President of ASATU, Anthony Obunna called on the federal government to urgently address the situation as the unity of the country was not negotiable .

“We want the unity of this country,  let the federal government and security agents urgently sort this out for the sake of peace and unity”

The federal government had announced closure of all inter state boundaries across the country as part of measures to contain the spread of covid 19 and save lives however several states in the South East have continued to intercept trucks loaded with human beings leading to panic among the people
