The Anambra State government says it will not tolerate rascality and illegality by any developer in the state.

To this end, it has called on contractors and developers to ensure they obtain relevant approvals for building and avoid building on water ways.

The Managing Director, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Chike Mmaduekwe, made this known in an interview shortly after he appeared before the State of House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts during an oversight on the 2022 Audited account of the state.

Mr. Mmaduekwe, who pointed out that the issue of flooding is a multi agency responsibility, noted that there had been internal collaboration and cohesion since the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration came to power.

According to the lawmaker, the present administration is very intolerant of people building on water ways, as such violators are given notice, after which the structure will be pulled down and culprits taken to court.

Mr. Maduekwe said the state could not fold its hands and allow people block water channels, especially having in mind the predictions that there would be flooding in the state in the coming weeks.

He warned developers, no matter their level of placement or wealth in the society, that government must do the right thing to save lives and property of its residents.

Mr. Mmaduekwe, identified lack of utilitily equipment, especially heavy duty vehicles, part of the major challenges hindering members of staff of the agency from embarking on regular inspections as required.

The Physical Planning Board, Director expressed the hope that the agency portal would soon be reconnected to the central server to enable them to step up in serving the people better.
