ANAMBRA STATE GOVT. URGE TERTIARY INSTITUTION TO EMBRACE COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURE

The Anambra State government had called on all tertiary institutions in the area to embrace commercial agriculture to enable them become more independent and also contribute to food security.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology,  Mrs Sally Mbanefo made the call during a visit to the Anambra State Polytechnic ,  Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area.

According to her ,  the Governor Willie Obiano led administration had concluded plans to empower tertiary institutions with needed assistance to embark on full agricultural activities including Snairy,   Piggery,  Fishery,  cassava plantation among others. Mrs Mbanefo while commending the staff and students of the Polytechnic for promoting the ideas of the present administration in the area of diversification ,  said the youths need to be engaged positively for them to contribute to nation building.

The Rector,  Anambra state Polytechnic ,  Dr. Nneka Mefor said after the institution secured all necessary academic accreditations,  plans have been concluded for the school to be self-sufficient by taking advantage of available resources in the school.

Dr. Mefor therefore encouraged staff and students of  the Polytechnic to join hands in order to realize the lofty objectives. Our correspondent reports that the Commissioner was recently deployed from the ministry of Tourism during a cabinet reshuffle by   Governor   Willie Obiano.
