Anambra State Government has directed all banks in the area to fully resume operations from Monday 13 September or risk being sealed. Also markets and transporters are to commence operation with immediate effect. Governor Willie Obiano, who gave the directive at Governors’ lodge Amawbia, stated that the sit at home order every Monday was affecting the economy of the state and its citizens.

Governor Obiano threatened that any bank, which fails to comply with the directive after being sealed, would be closed permanently. The Governor, who assured all banks that more security officials would be deployed to their premises and strategic locations in the state, noted that security and lives of the people were of utmost importance to his administration.

He noted that more security agents had been deployed to the state. The Indigenous People of Biafran, (IPOB) had earlier directed a sit at home every Monday, which was later cancelled, but most people have continued to observe the order, which the Governor said had impacted negatively on the economy of the state. The meeting drew bank managers, heads of security agencies and top government functionaries in the state.
