ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT ON RED ALERT OVER MENINGITIS
Anambra State Government says it has placed its health officials on red alert over the issue of Meningitis in the area. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike made this known in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Awka over the recent death of some people in one of the states in the country as a result of Meningitis.
Dr. Akabuike said Anambra State was prepared to contain the disease which, though was not common in the southern part of the country. He explained that the disease could be caused by a bacteria or virus. The Commissioner listed high grade fever, neck stiffness, severe headache, nausea and vomiting as well as convulsion as symptoms of the disease.
Dr. Akabuike pointed out that meningitis could be prevented through vaccination in areas that were endemic to the disease. He appealed to the people of the State to report to his office, cases with the symptoms of Meningitis for quick intervention.
