ANAMBRA RECORDS ITS FIRST COVID-19 CASE.

Anambra State has recorded first case of the corona virus pandemic.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had in a tweet confirmed that seventeen new cases were recorded as at 9:30pm Friday (April 10, 2020).

According to the records provided, four new states of Anambra, kaduna, Niger and Ondo States recorded their first positive cases while eight in Lagos State, three in Katsina State and two in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The development has sparked up reactions and panic as many took to different whatsapp groups and other online platforms to announce their fears about the index case.

Confirming the news in a telephone conversation with Radio Nigeria, Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, said the index case apparently entered into the state before the boundaries were closed about two weeks ago.

“The index case must have likely to have come before the closure of boundaries. We dont have testing lab here, the test we do is at Irua specialist hospital in Edo state. The person clearly contracted it from outside Anambra state and imported it into our state. The next thing is to find out the people who have cone into contact in the last two weeks or thereabout,” the Commissioner stated.

Mr. Adinuba said the state has begin contact tracing of persons who might have come in contact with the index case and urged the people not to panic. The Commissioner for Information also enjoined residents to maintain personal hygiene while observing the regulations offered by the government and health experts on Covid 19 pandemic.

“Its just one case, the situation is under control, but people must now know that we are entering into a very critical stage. Nobody should remain in doubt anymore. People must observe social distancing because the easiest way to contract the virus is by coming near a person, touching him or her,” Mr. Adinuba remarked. So far there are three hundred and five confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria with fifty eight discharged and seven deaths.
