ANAMBRA DOCTORS’ INDEFINITE STRIKE: PATIENTS APPEAL FOR URGENT RESOLUTION OF ISSUES
Some residents of Anambra State have appealed to the State Government to alleviate the suffering of the people by looking into the demands of striking medical doctors in its employ. They made the appeal while reacting to the indefinite strike by doctors in the state health facilities.
The strike is already two weeks old. A patient at the General Hospital Onitsha, Mrs. Ifunanya Monwuba, hinted that though nurses and other health workers came to work, the absence of medical doctors had been badly felt by the patients. A visibly disturbed respondent, Mr. Ojimadu Ijoma, called on relevant stakeholders to prevail on the government and the doctors to end the impasse while imploring people not to cash in on the strike to patronize quacks.
He added that further delay in doing the needful could result in loss of innocent lives. Meanwhile, one of the striking doctors, Uzor Ezeokoli, regretted the sufferings undergone by patients but maintained that the strike was necessary. Recall that the doctors embarked on a one week warning strike in September last year
