ANAMBRA CARGO AIRPORT WILL BE READY BY APRIL 2021 — GOV OBIANO

The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Aviation says the Anambra Cargo International Airport Umueri will be one of the best in the country when completed.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi stated this when the committee members came on an inspection tour of the airport.

Senator Adeyemi described aviation as social key to development of any country, stressing that the airport would boost the economic status of Anambra sSate and the Eastern region of the country.

Senator Adeyemi, who expressed gladness at the level of work done so far, emphasised the need for monitoring and supervising committees to be set up to help maintain the project.

He lamented that some of the airports in the country were not viable due to lack of maintenance culture.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Mr. Nnolim Nnaji, noted that critical aspects of any airport are safety and security, explaining that the project had provided a platform for the Eastern region residents to actualize their God-given potential.

The Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife applauded Governor Obiano for the airport project, saying that it would be a legacy project when completed.

The Commissioner for Works in Anambra State, Mr. Maxcel Ifejiofor, said that work on the airport commenced January 2021.

He explained that the airport provided three lifts, excalator and ram for the persons with disability, thirty-six shops among others.

Responding, Governor Willie Obiano expressed joy at the level of work done and promised that the airport would be ready for use by April 2021.

While thanking the Joint Senate Committee for the visit, the Governor noted that two aircrafts could arrive at the facility same time because of the safety run way at both ends.
