ALLEGED ORGAN HARVESTING: EBONYI STATE GOVT STANDS WITH EKWEREMADU, CALLS FOR JUSTICE
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Ebonyi State Government says it has reached out to the family of David Okemini Ukpo whose information to the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom orchestrated a criminal charge against Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji, explained that the state government had established contact with the Ukpo family and called on the United Kingdom to critically look at the intention and the minds of the detained family with the view of giving them the benefit of the doubt.
He noted that the state government stands with Senator Ekweremadu in this trial moment and called on members of the public with different shades of opinion and anxiety to remain calm and allow justice to prevail.
The Metropolitan Police few days ago arrested and arraigned Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, over an allegation that they trafficked a fifteen year old David Okemini Ukpo from Ebonyi State with the intent to harvest his organs.
Senator Ekweremadu had denied the allegation but was remanded alongside his wife until July 7, 2022 when they would reappear before the UK Margistrate court.
