ABIA GOVT LAUNCHES OPERATION CRUSH, DONATES 20 PATROL VANS TO SECURITY AGENCIES

Abia State Government has donated 20 Hilux security vans to all the security agencies in the state to enhance their operations.

Handing over the security vans while inaugurating the “Operation Crush,” a security Initiative designed to tackle crime and insecurity in Abia state, Governor Alex Otti says the Operation Crush is a joint taskforce comprising the Police, Army, Navy, DSS and NSCDC with the aim of identifying and responding swiftly to security threats in the state.

The Governor said that there would be zero tolerance to any act of criminality in the state.

He stressed that the goal was to counter incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery and charged the security personnel to pay attention to flash points, especially around Umunneochi and Isuikwuato axis, Aba, Umuahia and other parts of the state.

Gov. Otti advised the security agents to be brave and ruthless to the criminal elements and at the same time guard against harassment of innocent citizens.

The Governor warned that those who harbor and provide assistance to the criminals would be dealt with according to the law.

He called on the residents to volunteer intelligence and useful information to enable the scheme succeed as hotlines would be soon made available to the public.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, said Governor Otti had the mandate to create a peaceful and safety environment for all, saying that security infrastructure was critical to the administration and development of Abia State.

Responding on behalf of other security chiefs in the State, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, commended the Governor for demonstrating commitment to ensure high level security in the State.

He gave an assurance that the security agents in the state would do their best to ensure the scheme succeeded.
