A FATAL ACCIDENT IN OWERRI WEST LGA CLAIMS ONE LIFE, THREE SERIOUSLY INJURED

One person has lost his life and three others seriously injured following an accident that occurred this morning at Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

A bus loaded with pineapples reportedly rammed into a truck laden with Liquefied petroleum gas, LPG which had just discharged some of its content and was driving out from a gas station located along Owerri-Onitsha road. The two vehicles and an oncoming private car immediately went into flames thereby causing residents of the area as well as commuters plying the road to scamper for safety.

The Coordinator National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA in charge of Imo and Abia States Mr. Evans Ugoh who confirmed the incident said the three injured persons were receiving attention at an undisclosed hospital. According to him, officials of the Imo State Fire Service, Red Cross Society, the Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps were on ground to put out the fire.

 The two vehicles were completely burnt while only part of the truck conveying cooking gas was damaged by the fire.
