A three story building under construction at Nkaliki Residential Area of Abakaliki in Ebonyi State has collapsed. Radio Nigeria gathered that no life was lost as work was yet to resume at the site when the building collapsed early in the day.

Reacting to the incident, Special Assistant to the Governor on Capital Territory Development Board, Mrs. Chinyelu Udoku directed the Board to produce staff that approved the building and those in charge of monitoring its construction.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala ordered that the building be sealed and  demolished noting that the state government had embarked on investigation into the circumstances that led to the collapse. Meanwhile, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has suspended members of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board.

This followed an alleged failure of the Board to supervise the construction. A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala explained that the state government would announce a new taskforce on building approval, construction and supervision of all sites in Abakaliki.

He further directed the suspended members of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board to handover government property in their possession to Special Assistant to Governor on Capital City.
