6 POLICEMEN ARRESTED FOR FAILING TO SECURE ELECTION MATERIALS IN EBONYI

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested six police officers in connection with the burning of three INEC Registration Centre Areas during Gubernatorial election in Ezza North Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Loveth Odah, told journalists in Abakaliki that the officers were on duty at the centres located at Orieuzor, Ekaa and Okposi Umuoghara communities but failed to engage the attackers.

Mrs. Odah noted that the command was worried that the six armed police officers also did not contact a tactical team stationed few miles away.

She emphasised that the detained officers were facing orderly room trial after which they would be arraigned if found culpable.

About thirty six thousand voters were disenfranchised as a result of the incident.
