4 POLICEMEN KILLED AS GUNMEN ATTACK POLICE STATION IN OGUTA LGA

REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

Four Police officers have been killed following an attack by hoodlums on Agwa Police Division in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer Imo State Police Command, Mr. Micheal Abattam, indicated that the hoodlums stormed the station around midnight on Friday in two Sienna mini vans and a tipper lorry, which they used to break the entrance gate and forcefully gain access into the premises.

According to the police spokesman, the gunmen threw improvised explosive devices and petrol bombs and thereafter started shot sporadically, which eventually led to the death of the police personnel.

Mr. Abattam explained that vehicles and motorcycles parked at the division were gutted by fire though security officers on duty tried to repel the attack and later put out the fire.

He stated that two suspects in custody escaped during the attack while a rifle was carted away.

The statement claimed that the attackers later fled with their vehicles after sustaining gun shot injuries from the police.

The Public Relations Officer added that the Commissioner of Police Mr. Mohammed Barde, had visited the scene and security beefed up in the area, noting that the Command would stop at nothing to apprehend those behind the attack.
