2023: COURT AFFIRMS NWOBASI AS APGA CANDIDATE FOR EZZA NORTH/ISHIELU FED CONST.

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, has affirmed the former Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Joseph Nwobasi, as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Election.

This followed a petition filed by Chief Obasi challenging the decision of his party to substitute his name with that of a serving member of the House of Representatives, Chief Anayo Edwin.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Fatun Riman, the Court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Mr. Nwaobashi as the candidate of APC for Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency.

The Court agreed with the Plaintiff that Mr. Anayo Edwin, who is the incumbent member, representing the Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not a member of APGA and cannot be a substitute for Mr. Nwaobashi as the candidate of APGA in the 2023 Election.

The Court barred the leadership of APGA, Chief Edwin and their agents from further attempts to substitute the name of the Plaintiff as the candidate of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Speaking with Journalists, counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. Festus Nweke, lauded the court for ensuring that justice was done in the matter.

Efforts to get the reaction of the counsel to the defendant failed.
