2 SUSPECTED RAIL VANDALS LAND IN NSCDC’S CUSTODY IN ABIA

REPORTER: LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command says the corps will continue to carry out zero tolerance against all forms of vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure of the country.

The Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mr. Paul Igwebuike, said this during a media briefing at the command headquarters in Umuahia Abia State.

He noted that the task of securing the National Assets should be a collective one among conventional security agencies and stakeholders in the country.

Mr. Igwebuike commended the Nigerian Navy Owerrinta, for arresting and handing over the two suspected rail track vandals, Amanze Agwutu and Chukwudi Nwadike, to the Command in Umuahia

He further stated that the officers of corps while on patrol on the Ubakala-Aba express way also arrested two suspected hoodlums at a dump site.

According to the commandant, his men were attacked by other hoodlums that led to the escape of the arrested men.

He noted that it was during the attack on his men by the hoodlums that one of them was shot in the leg to demobilize him from carrying out his deadly mission.

The NSCDC Boss stated that the victim later died in a hospital where he was rushed to for medical treatment.

In an interview, one of the suspended rail track vandals, Chukwudi Nwadike, who claimed to be a bus driver, said he was only contracted by one Odumeje to convey some equipment for him from Isuikwuato to Aba.

Items said to have been recovered from the suspects include two Hummer busses loaded with rail slippers and other rail infrastructure.
