COVID-19: UNICEF DISTRIBUTES WASH STANDS TO SCHOOLS IN ENUGU

Six hundred wash stands which included buckets with taps and liquid soaps have been donated to selected schools in Enugu State by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),with support from Global Partnership for Education.

Handing over one hundred and twenty-eight of the total items to the management of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board ENSUBEB, in Enugu, the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) manager UNICEF, Enugu Field Office, Mrs Mamita Bora Thakker encouraged the school authorities to ensure that the pupils wash their hands regularly and that the facilities are maintained.

Also speaking at the event UNICEF Education Specialist Dr Agather Nzeribe explained that fifty primary schools in Aninri, Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani local government areas got four stand each. Doctor Nzeribe explained that the benefitting schools were selected based on their lack of WASH facilities, recieving the items the Executive Chairman, ENSUBEB Mr. Ikeje Asogwa thanked UNICEF for remembering schools in Enugu State in its programmes.

Mr Asogwa ,who was represented on the occassion by the Board Chairman ENSUBEB Dr Hyginus Eze stated that the gesture would complement the efforts of the state government towards ensuring sanitation and hygiene in Scchools.

Among the dignitaries that graced the occassion is the chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Nweke Odo, while the Commissioner for Education Professor Uche Eze was represented by a director in the ministry.
