PROVIDE FUND TO REPLACE OBSOLETE MILITARY WEAPONS – ANGLICAN CLERIC TASKS FG

An Anglican Clergyman, the Reverend Cannon Charles Chukwurah, has urged the Federal Government to make adequate monetary provisions for the funding of national security.

The Reverend Cannon Chukwurah stated this in a sermon at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka during a Eucharistic Service to mark the commencement of the 2018 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Anambra State Council.

He explained that such a measure would help in replacing obsolete weapons at the disposal of the military and encourage the resolve of its personnel to protect the territorial integrity of the country.

The Anglican Priest lamented the high number of casualties recorded by the military in the hands of insurgents in the recent past.

Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Don Adinuba, stressed that the State had been peaceful and united in the past four years under the present administration in the area.

He applauded the collaboration with the Anglican Church and media workers in enhancing the socio- economic transformation of the State.

The Chairman of NUJ in the State, Mr. Emma Ifesinachi, said the event would focus on hate speeches due to the need to tackle its menace ahead of the 2019 general election.

In a remark, the Vicar of the Cathedral, Venerable Sam Okonkwo, who said the work of journalists was important to the society in information flow, expressed appreciation to the Union for starting its event with thanksgiving to God.
