GOV IKEAZU PROMISES TO PAY MINIMUM WAGE IN JANUARY AND REVIVE MORE INDUSTRIES

Payment of the new minimum wage to workers in Abia State is to begin this January.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu announced this in a broadcast to the people of the state.

Governor Ikpeazu said the state government was mindful of the challenges faced by pensioners and had intensified efforts to address pension and other debt arrears.

He explained that with the success recorded in resuscitating Golden Guinea Breweries, which had commenced production, plans were ongoing to restore other moribund industries in the State.

The Governor announced that financial and logistic modalities for the completion of some road projects had been put in place and that the state government was working towards the completion of the processes required for accessing African Development Bank facility to revamp critical infrastructure in the State.

Governor Ikpeazu said the first phase of construction work on the
Enyimba Economic City project, in collaboration with private partners and anchor tenants would commence soon, pointing out that the project remained the darling of investors

He pledged to sustain partnership with the World Bank through NEWMAP, RAMP and other intervention programs by ensuring prompt payment of counterpart funds.

According to Governor Ikpeazu, the outlook for infrastructural development in 2020 was bright, noting that critical agencies of government had been strengthened with new management to enhance their effectiveness with new mandates to ensure optimal delivery.
