Following the Enugu State Executive Council’s approval of ₦12 million to assist the Transmission Company of Nigeria boost power supply in the state, the people of Nru Community, Nsukka Local Government Area have heaved a sigh of relief.
This is because the move will ensure the supply of 24 Mega Watts of electricity to the area.
Some business owners and residents in the area expressed delight with the intervention by the state and federal governments.
The Assistant General Manager Transmission, Enugu sub-region, Mr. Kasim Bakare said the 30 MVA injection substation close to the back gate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka had been completed since 2016, but was not powered because of problem of litigation and transmission right of way.
The General Manager, Rural Electrification Board, Mr. Simon Atigwe, said the government had provided necessary logistics to power the plant to improve supply.
The 30 MVA injection sub-station is expected to be fully functional by the end of January 2018.
