EBONYI STATE GOVT PLANS FOR CEMENT PRODUCTION

CEMENT3Ebonyi State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a multinational cement production company for the exploration of limestone deposit within a coverage area of 179 square kilometres in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State.

At the event in Abakaliki, Governor David Umahi explained that it was in furtherance of his administration’s commitment towards harnessing abundant mineral resources in the state.

Governor Umahi called on the company to fast track the commencement of the exploration to enable the state government and the people to start reaping the benefits of the natural resource.

The Special Assistant to the State Governor on Cement and Salt Production, Prince Sunday Ugwuocha explained that the terms of agreement included that the Company would bear the cost of technical requirements while the state government would provide security and secure exploration licence.

A representative of the firm, Mr. Segun Okesowu, assured the State Government that the company would be guided by the clauses in the Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that Ebonyi State benefitted from the deal.

Secretary to the State Government, Professor Benard Odo signed the documents on behalf of the government while Mr. Okesowu signed on behalf of the company.
